Allahumma Series Dua 4 اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَىAllahumma inni as’alukal-huda, wat-tuqa, walafafa, wal-ghinaO Allah I ask you for guidance, for piety, for modesty and self-sufficiency. Abdullah bin Masood RA reported that Prophet Muhammad saw used to supplicate this dua. اللهم إني أسألك الهدى، والتقى، والعفاف، والغنى Sunan Ibn Majah 3832 / This dua is one of the most comprehensive and beneficial duas, because it includes asking Allah for well-being with regards to both the religion and the Huda is beneficial knowledge, At Tuqa is piety or righteous action and leaving what Allah and his Messenger saw has forbidden, and this is asking for correctness and wellbeing of person’s religion. Al Afafa is wellbeing and safety, and Al Ghina is contentment and sufficiency which comprises of, being saved from the harms of the creation and that the heart is not attached to precisely, this dua is very comprehensive, as it contains all the things which any person wants. This dua is divided into 4 parts in which we ask Allah for Al huda means hidayat or guidance,• “Indeed, the only guidance is Allah’s guidance”. Surah Anaam 671• “Whoever follows my guidance shall neither go astray nor fall into distress and misery.” Surah Taha 20123• “While as for those who accept guidance, He increases their guidance and bestows on them their piety “. Surah Muhammad 4717• “This Quran is a clear statement to all the people and guidance and instruction for those conscious of Allah.” Surah Al Imran 3138So, from above Quranic verses hidayat is from Allah and true guidance is to learn from the Quran and hadith. It is because of this hidayat and guidance that we can live our life according to the will of Allah and whatever pleases Him, if he does not have hidayat, we will be lost in this world and will emerge loser in the hereafter, so asking for al huda is of the utmost importance. At Tuqa means piety or taqwa.• “Verily the most honourable of you with Allah is that believer, who has taqwa, verily Allah is All knowing – all aware Surah Hujurat 4913• And whoever fears Allah, He will make for him ease in his matter.” Surah Talaq, 654.Whoever has Taqwa, Allah makes matters easy for him in this world as well as the hereafter. This does not necessarily mean that the person will not face difficulty, but through the blessings of his Taqwa, he is guaranteed ease and the strength to bear these difficulties without losing faith or hope by Almighty Allah. The reward of facing these difficulties will be given by Allah in the hereafter. • Truly Allah loves the Muttaqin. Surah Al Imran, 376From this verse, we can conclude that Allah loves those who are piety that is who does righteous deeds. Taqwa is the source of gaining Allah’s love and blessings. • And whoever fears Allah, He will make for him a way out. Surah Talaq, 652.People who are facing difficulties but remain steadfast in their faith for the sake of Allah, Allah SWT will surely make ways for them to get rid of their problems. Taqwa serves as a divine guard against trials of this world as well as the difficulties of the Akhirah. • Allah only accepts from the people of taqwa. Surah Maeda, 527.People who are Muttaqin Allah loves them and accept their actions and deeds. • Abu Dharr RA said The Messenger of Allah said to me Have Taqwa of Allah wherever you are and follow an evil deed with a good one to wipe it out and treat the people with good behavior. Jam e Tirmazi1987So, from the verses above, it is proved that to live a righteous and pleasing life, we need to have taqwa that is fearing Allah, having complete faith in Him, and thereby getting His love and mercy. These things will encourage us to do righteous deeds. Al-Afaafa means chastity or dignified restrain.• Abu Moosa RA reported that Prophet Muhammad saw said,” whoever guards what is between his jaws and guards his chastity he will enter paradise.”Jam e Tirmazi2408 / • Prophet Muhammad saw said, “if a woman prayed the 5 obligatory prayers, fast in the month of Ramadan, preserves her chastity, and obeys her husband, will be told to enter paradise, from whichever door she wishes.” Sahih Ibn Habban 4252 • It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that The Prophet ﷺ said Faith has seventy odd branches and modesty Al-Haya’ is a branch of faith. Sunnan e Nisai5007Basically, chastity is a virtue in Islam. One needs to be mindful and cautious about it, as it is of utmost importance. Al Ghina means self-sufficiency.• Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah said Richness is not having many possessions, but richness is being content with e Tirmazi2373 / Abdullah bin Amr narrated that the Messenger of Allah said He has succeeded who accepts Islam and is provided with what is sufficient and is made content by Allah. Jam e Tirmazi2348 / we should be satisfied and content with whatever Allah has blessed us with. Only then will we be at beauty of this doa is, we are asking Allah for guidance, piety, and self-sufficiency and all these are important ingredients for a successful life and a victorious hereafter.
Purification of the Soul 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud radiallahu 'anhu relates that the Prophet sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam would supplicate, "O Allah! I ask You for guidance, piety, safety and well-being, and contentment and sufficiency." [Allahumma inni as 'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina. Related by Muslim, no. 2721] Imam as-Sa'di d. 1376H - rahimahullah - said in Bahjatul Qulubul-Abrar p. 198 "This du'a supplication is from the most comprehensive and beneficial du'a, since it includes asking Allah for well-being with regards to both the Religion and the World. Thus, al-huda the Guidance is beneficial knowledge, and at-tuqa taqwa or piety is righteous actions and leaving-off what Allaah and His Messenger have forbidden; and this is asking for correctness and well-being of a person's Religion. For indeed, the Religion comprises of beneficial knowledge and recognising the truth - which is guidance - and standing firm upon obedience to Allah and His Messenger sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam - and this is piety. And al-'afafa well-being and safety and al-ghina contentment and sufficiency comprises of being safe from the harms of the creation and that the heart is not attached to them. So whosoever is granted the provision of guidance, piety, well-being and contentment has indeed achieved true happiness, and has acquired all that could be possibly sought after, as well as being saved from all that is dreadful and frightening."And it also comprises of being contended with Allah and what He provides, and seeking whatever will cause the heart to be satisfied with Him. So with this, happiness in this worldly life is completed, and the heart tastes true sweetness and delight - and this is a goodly life. So whosoever is granted the provision of guidance, piety, well-being and contentment has indeed achieved true happiness, and has acquired all that could be possibly sought after, as well as being saved from all that is dreadful and frightening."
